Goodbye 2012 with an Octopus.

Twas an alright year but now it's about to be over. I thought it's best to send it out with an Octopus. Why an Octopus? why not an Octopus. So, goodbye 2012! we didn't all die, we re-elected a president (which, some view as the same as dying- they're just being a tad bit over dramatic), we witnessed some pretty tragic things from Connecticut to Sandy- hopefully we'll learn from those events and actually do better. Let's hope for that.

Up next. 2013 when I'll silkscreen that cephalopod.

Got into to TCAF!

You heard that right. I was selected to exhibit at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival! From what I understand it is relatively difficult to get into and is supposed to be a fantastic festival so I am really excited to be able to exhibit!

I'm not going alone either. Two of my studio mates also got in. Aya Kakeda and Jen Tong- half of our studio will be exhibiting! cooler beans.

I'll be debuting all sorts of new stuff including my ongoing and ever-expanding tropes into silkscreen printing! The image was one of the last things I printed before the labs shut for the break.

Cheers

The Continuing Adventures in Silkscreening

So after a bit of rough start (i.e. making as many mistakes as I could in a given time), I'm starting to get the hang of silk screening. I'm now venturing into three colors with the Red Riding Hood image that I appropriated from a comic I did a few years back. I edited all the word balloons out of the image and made it a bit stouter- I'll be selling the print at comic conventions so keep your eyes out for it!

Silkscreen fun times

So I've been taking Sara Varon's silkscreen class at SVA and so far it's been good fun. I've decided to start simple- a series prints of animal boxers. So far, so good. I'm looking forward to trying something more complicated as so far I'm really just doing two color prints which was probably for best considering I haven't really seriously done silkscreen ( a bit in high school, but I couldn't remember that to save my life) I'll keep posting on my progress!

Windows 8 commercial storyboarded

This is one of the commercials for Microsoft's new Windows 8 campaign I storyboarded for 1st Ave Machine's director Aaron Duffy last summer. It was a lot of work, but good fun too. Below are some samples from boards that I drew for this commercial.

NY Comicon 2012 RECOVERY period

oh boy,  I thought I knew what tired was. After  four great days at NY Comiccon I had no how hard it would hit me. I'm on the recovery now, but it was a fantastic time- my book Gettysburg got mentioned in the NY TIMES!

Here's a photo of Aya Kakeda and myself at our booth

New York Comicon COMETH

For the first time in known history I will not only attend New York Comicon I will be an exhibitor! This is a bit of an experiment for me to see how my works stands in the more mainstream world of american comics. I know I can sell books at Stumptown and MoCCA but can the I hold up in the face of pure comic commercialism? (Let's hope so, the booth was expensive)

This totally unrelated image of the civil war photographer Matthew Brady by me, was recently in the Smithsonian Magazines Civil War Special

Digestate

I'm going to be in a new Anthology called "Digestate" assembled and produced by J.T.Yost. This book is all about food and our relationships with it. There's an awesome list of contributors who'll be in it and a diverse thoughts and tastes on food. This image is my opening splash.
