Fight! 5:29 PM
So as I was finishing this ink wash drawing I had a revelation- It's not often in life that we achieve our dream goals. Sometimes we get pretty close. I draw for a living which is pretty sweet but when I was 15 I thought I'd be living the high life drawing only monsters and comics. My tastes have changed since I was 15- I like superheroes and really like monsters but I've got other things that I that I like draw more.. ok, maybe not more than monsters. To the point- I don't think this is my best drawing, but I guarantee you, if you showed this to my 15 year old self he would clearly say I have satisfied all of my arty aspirations and can now glide on my skills. Which is pretty sweet to think about.

Giant Robot & Monster. BFF's Forever 4:19 PM
Okay, maybe not but these two would make such a cute couple when they're not trying to destroy each other and cause massive amounts of collateral damage. MoCCA festival is coming up and I'm so excited to debut this zine!

Creature Incubator 5:04 PM
All giant monsters start somewhere, usually in a radiated nuclear test site... except this poor guy. He was conceived, grown, and made very cranky in a lab. Another page from my monster vs. giant robot zine.

Happy New Year! 4:43 PM
Happy New Year! Celebrate it with this bad-ass Mermaid out of my sketchbook! She wields a victorian era whaling harpoon and a shark tooth club. She’s accompanied by her besty Moray Eel Murray! This is no little mermaid! cheers!

Shovel Head 1:10 PM
I originally intended this monster to be the main opponent of my robot in my ROBOT vs. MONSTER zine but as I was finishing the drawing the concept just didn't say "I knock down building for the joy of it". That happens sometimes to me. I get really into the drawing a creature that I could believe in so I start thinking about the monster I'm creating as more of an actual animal than just a beast of destruction. Well, that's how this guy got away from its intended purpose and developed a life of it's own.
So, I present Ligonem Bestia (the Shovel Beast) or more commonly known as the Shovel Head or Shovel Headed Beast.
Ok, now to draw that monster that'll bash buildings and robots

SQUID IT! 3:24 PM
In the run up to Halloween I painted this yesterday. A man-squid monstrosity. I’ve been toying with doing a book of monsters for a while since I like drawing and painting them so much and also letting people use them for as new monsters for their role playing games. If I do commit to that I’d definitely go back and give stats to several of the monsters I’ve designed before.
I haven’t played D&D in quite some time so you’ll have to bear with me if I don’t remember all the stats and properties that are required to play them properly. So, if I miss anything feel free to fill in the blanks. On that note too, last time I really enjoyed playing D&D was with the 3.5 Edition. In many ways the 4th Edition kind of killed the game for me. I’ve heard good things about the fifth edition but have had no time to check it out. Below are the this guys stats and description.

The Squiduggar are bipedal semi-intelligent nomadic cephalopods that travel the salt oceans across the map. They are opportunists and will tend to only attack those that they can easily overwhelm, if confronted by a stronger force they will try to flee. Squiduggars speak in a their own language of beak clicks that has yet to be translated. Communicating with them will be very difficult without the use of magic. Aside of the sharp beak, Squiduggars have no bones in their bodies, instead a complex system of semi-rigid cartilage making it very difficult to bind or jail them because they can easily slip out. While Squiduggars prefer to stay in water they have been known to raid seaside and canaled settlements taking advantage of their aquatic and difficult to imprison abilities.
Combat:
They tend not to carry weapons preferring to grapple and constrict their enemies while finishing them with a powerful bite from their beaked mouth. When they do use weapons they use harpoons and spears.

It came from the BLACK LAGOON 10:01 AM
First, I am no animator- cheers to those with the patience and tenacity to bring drawings to life- I barely can constrain myself to comics let alone 32 plus frames a second!
This is my ode to the Creature from the Black Lagoon- One of my all time favorite monsters! Such an amazing design! I just had to chart its growth cycle.

A Kindler Gentler Harpy 3:31 PM
My last Harpy was pretty dark and creepy- which is worked well for that drawing but for this one I wanted try something different- take a mythical beast and completely rethink how it's been traditionally illustrated.
So Harpy version 2. I'm considering coloring it if I have time.
I'll be at MoCCA coming up and hope to see you all there

NEW YEAR KAIJU! 3:05 PM

Happy New Year. No better way than to start with a monster drawing- Sometimes I think I could just sit around all day and draw monsters. But I think that falls under the category of too much of good thing just might ruin it. So for now, monster drawing is an indulgence of mine that I've yet to get tired of- this is my tribute to Pacific Rim- which I thought was great. Did this in my sketchbook using pen and ink with inkwash.

Snakey Weird Centipede Monster 3:49 PM
On the fifth day I created... I'm not really sure what this is. I imagined it living in the desert skittering about, darting over rocks, and killing without mercy. This is day five for the monster week long challenge done.

Monter FOUR 2:56 PM
Well, we're over the hump for the week long monster challenge. I"m calling this guy Frog Face for now, I really wanted to play with the idea of something that used it's arms for mobility and it's feet to manipulate things. It came out all right, but not my favorite so far.

Day 3 of the Week long Monster Challenge 3:24 PM
My third day and another monster. I was going for a floating jelly fish skull, but my studio mate Aya ruined it by saying it looks like an ice cream cone- "a cone formed of entrails!" I cried but a cone nonetheless. It's a floating ice cream cone of DEATH!
